SPECIAL TENAC MEETING: June 1, 2011 Featuring NEW COUNCILMEMBER VINCENT ORANGE, TENAC-backed OFFICE OF PEOPLE'S COUNSEL (OPC) NOMINEE SANDRA MATTVOUS-FRYE, D.C. Metro AFL-CIO and More (Click for details)
Wednesday, June 1, 2011 (All day)
Come hear and ask newly-elected Councilmember Orange about his views on rent control, how to promote affordable housing and safeguard tenants' rights, at a dire time for tenants, who face myriad obstacles to obtaining in practice their rights mandated by the law as well as on paper. As TENAC-backed Nominee for OPC, we will want to hear Sandra Mattvous-Frye. OPC's mandate is to protect and promote consumer rights in utilities and against the big monopolistic companies, and nothing else has more to do with tenants rights (besides the rent we pay) than utility costs, in this day when landlords are attempting back-door rent increases with individual metering and bogus utility costs, attempting to circumvent the law's requirement for "utilities included" leases, that the rent be reduced in proportion to the utility costs that landlords are attempting to impose. As important, the two new appointees to the Rental Housing Commission (RHC) have been invited. Tenants need to know the views of rental housing-related appointments, especially now when appointees, from the federal level down to the municpal, have becoming increasingly positions for patronage for cronies and spokesmen for the industries the appointees are supposed to regulate. CLICK FOR DETAILS AND FLYER. We kindly ask if you could distribute the flyer in the link if you are at all disposed to do so. ALL ARE INVITED!
