CRITICAL- Turn Out at Hearing Needed to Defeat Pepco/Exelon Merger!

We Ask, Please Attend if Only for an Hour - the only Public Service Commission Hearing (re-hearing) on the Merger, This Tuesday, Nov. 17th; A Strong Showing Will Help Defeat This Back Door Effort!

Dear Tenants and Friends,

In August, the DC Public Service Commission (PSC) rejected the proposed Exelon-Pepco merger, ruling that it was NOT in the public interest. The commission underlined that it threatened the District’s commitment to clean energy. Yet, unbelievably, in October, Mayor Muriel Bowser struck a back-room deal with Exelon to revive the merger.

Now, the DC Public Service Commission has agreed to consider Mayor Bowser’s deeply flawed settlement on an expedited timeline, and is holding only one public hearing -- next Tuesday, November 17th.

We need a huge crowd -- inside and outside the hearing room -- to demand that the PSC protect ratepayers, our clean energy future, and our democracy by rejecting this merger once and for all!

Join us on November 17th: Demand that the PSC reject Mayor Bowser’s back-room deal with Exelon, and stop this corporate takeover!

People power stopped this merger once, and we can do it again – with your help. The facts show that Mayor Bowser’s settlement deal does nothing to address the merger’s core threats to ratepayers or our clean energy future. On top of that, it increasingly stinks of scandal.

On Wednesday morning, DC leaders held a press conference to demand a city ethics investigation of “soccergate” questions.1 Just days before Mayor Bowser cut an 11th-hour deal with Exelon to revive the merger, she struck a $25 million sponsorship deal with Pepco to pave way for the DC United soccer stadium. Did pay-to-play politics take hold over the public interest? We need to know!

And we need to pack the room on Tuesday.
We know that Exelon and Pepco’s corporate allies are going to be there in full force. We need to show the PSC that DC residents aren’t fooled -- this new deal is NOT in the public interest.
